Dining in Niagara Fall area
there is a little bakery on Portage Rd.....that you can get a 2 meat and 1 cheeses on a bun for about .00CDN each....and yes there is a grocery store on the main drag....called No frills...we always buy munchies and drinks to keep in our room.
The Boston Pizza on Clifton Hill is quite reasonable (and they have a lot more than pizza). The 'No Frills' is on Lundy's Lane. A great place to get sandwiches and fruit, etc. is Lococo's on Victoria Ave. just down the street from Great Wolf Lodge
Outing in Niagara Fall area and Toronto
And here's a tip: Each week, Outside Toronto www.outsidetoronto.com suggests things to see and do within a 2 hour drive of the city of Toronto: antiques shows, farmers' markets, recreational events, and special events for kids. The "places to go" section directs you to museums, festivals, and charming little towns. The site provides maps too.
My favoutite side trips from Niagra are Stratford, Niagra on the Lake, St. Jacobs, The Muskoka Lakes, and Hamilton.
The Niagra Parkway, on the Canadian side of the falls, is a gem. Unlike the American side, it abounds with natural wonders, including vast expanses of parkland. You can drive along the 35 mile parkway all the way from Niagra-on-the-Lake to Niagra Falls on the parkway, taking in attractions en route. Here are the major ones, listed in the order you'll encounter them The White Water Walk, The Whirlpool Aero Car, The Niagra Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture and the Butterfly Conservatory, Queenston Heights Park, the Laura Secord Homestead, Inniskillin Winery, and old fort erie.
How about a day in Niagara on the Lake. A quaint little village 15 miles from Niagara Falls, famous for Shaw festival and shops and restaurants.
Early March is the start of maple syrup time. There many places to experience this in the Niagara/Hamilton Region:
